The project consists of annual promotions, training and youth development activities and includes a “ facility support ” component. The project’s awareness-raising and outreach campaigns provide young orphans and other vulnerable children who are out of work, their families and their community in general with information on the opportunities of the agro-silvo-pastoral professions.
At the same time, it is a question of identifying, selecting and guiding those already carrying projects in the professions concerned towards support structures. The partnerships or collaboration agreements signed with the municipalities aim to help sensitize grassroots representatives on the basis of the necessary training-employment match.
For the Founding Director of the “Centres d’Accueil de l’Espoir” (CAES), Reverend Sister Brigit Mewoulou, promoter of the Center for the Promotion of Socio-Economic Activities (CPSEA), this initiative carried out with young orphans and other vulnerable children and for themselves, deserves the support of public and private authorities, especially as the fight against youth unemployment integrates the equations to be solved by the Cameroonian government. And when this struggle can lead to the promotion of Cameroonian agriculture and livestock, this can only benefit from the government’s bail.
But the Founding Director never ceases to recall the challenges linked to the success of such an initiative and always fears the losses of trained young people. The unfortunate experiences in the past testify as well within the CPSEA as in other similar projects piloted by the state entities where the conversion could not be realized at the time, the candidates to agriculture has simply withdrawn, despite significant sums mobilized by the state to install them. She fights day-to-day with our partners to make our present and future experiences a success.
And one of the tracks of these successes is to seek to touch the very soul of potential candidates for agro-sylvo-pastoral activities. Because it is not easy for someone who is orphaned and under-educated, who has spent more than 4 years doing mototaxi in the village and who is shimmering jobs in town to become a farmer-rancher overnight.
The other track is to focus, for example, on conversion to intermediate activities such as marketing, agro-sylvo-pastoral processing of CPSEA. Perhaps here, the cases of loss will be more limited. Not only will young people be able to adapt better, but it will also ensure the future survival of the Center. Together we can make a difference.
